The Shelk Residence, Powell Butte

The landscape design created several types of outdoor spaces. These spaces provide opportunities for intimacy, entertaining, and recreation. Moving through the vehicular courtyard and parking areas, the enclosed courtyard offers a strong connection to the entry foyer. The courtyard provides seasonal gardening opportunities as well as outdoor extensions of interior rooms. Once inside the home, it is very apparent that this pattern of outdoor living continues to the back of the residence. Each outdoor space relates to its respective interior room and each are carefully connected through a series of steps, pathways, and passages.

The materials used are a combination of native and non-native. This combination is composed to both compliment and contrast with each other. The resulting landscape is inviting, functional, and rich in character.
